The 20-Party Alliance leader says everyone will be treated equally if their coalition is elected to power

Chief Coordinator of the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance Col (retd) Oli Ahmed has said that the officials, who helped the current government stay in power for 10 years, will not face any action if their coalition comes to power through the 11th general election under one condition.

“But they [government officials] will have to play an impartial role during the election. Everyone will be treated equally,” he said at a press conference held at Fusion Hunt in Banani, Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.

Oli, also the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president, said: "Government officials who work for 24 hours or are always ready for work around the clock, will be provided special benefits for their salary.

"For police, separate hospitals and medical colleges will be built in different divisional cities."

He said that they believed government, quasi-government and non-government officials of all levels would ensure the people’s right to vote, regardless of their political affiliation, to have a clear conscience.

"It will not be humane to carry out their duties while serving a political party," he added.

Responding to a query, the LDP chief said that the 20-Party Alliance would only nominate those who are qualified and popular among people to run for office in the polls, now slated for December 30.

However, he said, the people's voting right would have to be ensured first. “The government must be formed with representatives elected by the people. For that, people must be honest, courageous and aware.”

Top LDP leaders, including the party’s Secretary General Dr Redwan Ahmed and Presidium members, were also present at Thursday’s press briefing.
