BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that the cancellation of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia's candidacy was part of government's aim to hold a lopsided election.
He stated this at a press conference at BNP's Naya Paltan head office on Sunday, reports UNB.
The senior BNP leader said: "We think it's an ill-motivated decision. Our leader's [Khaleda Zia’s] candidacy has been cancelled as part of government's master plan and a blueprint to keep her away from the election."

He added that the candidacy of some other popular BNP candidates has also been cancelled because the government is trying to hold a unilateral election and stay in power by force.
On Sunday, the Election Commission rejected BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's nomination papers to contest the parliamentary election – for Feni 1 constituency – due to her conviction in two corruption cases.
