The seat was previously offered to Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad
The Awami League has finally given the nomination for Dhaka 17 constituency to prominent film actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Faruk for the 11th parliamentary election.
The nomination letter was sent to Faruk from the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Friday.
Faruk was the ruling party’s first choice for the seat, which comprises Gulshan, Banani and the cantonment area. But then the seat was offered to Jatiya Party Chairman and former military dictator HM Ershad, before the ruling party decided to go back to its original choice.

Earlier, in the 2008 election, Ershad was nominated and elected to parliament from Dhaka 17. In the 2014 polls, Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) Chief Convener Abul Kalam Azad was nominated and elected from this seat.
