His candidature was rejected due to his status as a loan defaulter
The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday rejected Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique’s appeal against the rejection of his nomination.
Kader Siddique had submitted nomination forms for Tangail 4 (Kalihati) and 8 (Basail and Sakhipur) constituencies.
His candidature was rejected due to his status as a loan defaulter.
Tangail Deputy Commissioner and 11th general election Returning Officer Shahidul Islam initially rejected Kader Siddique’s candidacy after his nomination papers were scrutinized around 2pm Sunday, December 2. He later confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
The Election Commission has been hearing appeals filed against nomination rejections since Thursday. Saturday is the last day of appeal hearings.
The hearings for candidates with cases numbered from 161 to 310 took place on Friday, while the hearings on cases numbered from 311 to 543 are being held on Saturday.
Previously in 2017, Kader Siddique was disqualified by the High Court from contesting the by-election for Tangail 4 constituency, on charges of defaulting on loans.
