According to ruling party insiders, the Awami League is planning to publish its manifesto on December 18
The Awami League is on the verge of finalizing its election manifesto, which is scheduled to go to print in a couple of days.
The slogan for the ruling party's manifesto for the upcoming 11th general election has been set as “Bangladesh’s road to prosperity", which is consistent with AL's previous slogan, “Bangladesh is moving forward”.
According to ruling party insiders, the Awami League is planning to publish the manifesto on December 18. Prime Minister and party president Sheikh Hasina will formally reveal the manifesto at a press conference.
A draft copy of the manifesto has been sent to Hasina for final evaluation, and after her approval it will be sent to the press for printing, they added.
Speaking to this correspondent, Abdur Razzaque, election manifesto sub-committee convener and party presidium member, said: “The manifesto has been drafted, and a date for publishing it will be finalized in a day or two."
“This manifesto is a road map to prosperity, and it features the blueprint for building a developed Bangladesh,” he added.
On Monday, HT Imam, Awami League’s election steering committee co-chairman and advisory council member, told reporters: “The manifesto will be published on December 18, and it will garner a lot of interest from the people.
“Awami League is giving more importance to the new voters.”
Comprehensive development strategy
According to party insiders, the election manifesto will also feature the Awami League government’s achievements in the past decade. It will also highlight development plans for a new 2019-2023 tenure.
Other important issues, such as “special promises”,expanding “Vision 2041," and poor governance of the BNP-Jamaat government from 2001 to 2006 will also be featured.
The manifesto will feature achievements earned by the Awami League in each sector, and details about the party's future development plans. It will also showcase the international accolades and recognition Sheikh Hasina earned during her tenure as the prime minister.
The manifesto will also feature two plans for youth development - one for urban residents and one for those living in rural areas.
Selim Mahmud, a Dhaka University law teacher and a member of the election manifesto sub-committee, said: “The manifesto will showcase guidelines and plans for building a investment-friendly Bangladesh. Employment issue is being given importance.
“It will feature plans regarding the heights Awami League will take Bangladesh to in 2030 and 2040. There will be detailed plans for development strategy stretching to year 2071, the hundredth anniversary of the country's independence.”
According to sources, the manifesto will also feature guidelines on blue economy, protection of our maritime border, and proper utilization of resources while safeguarding the environment and native ecology.
Several election manifesto sub-committee members, on condition of anonymity, said the manifesto will reiterate the promise of building 100 economic zones across Bangladesh. It might also contain a chapter on observing “Mujib Borsho” or “Mujib Year".
