‘Some men attacked the motorcade with brickbats while shouting ‘Joy Bangla’
The motorcade of the Jhalakathi 2 constituency BNP candidate Ziba Amin Khan has allegedly been attacked by miscreants at the Barisal Airport.
The incident occurred when the electoral candidate started for Jhalakathi from the airport after flying there from Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
“Some men attacked the motorcade with brickbats while shouting ‘Joy Bangla’. They then vandalized four motorcycles belonging to our motorcade,” Ziba told the Dhaka Tribune over the mobile phone.
However, the vehicle carrying Ziba remained unharmed.
Ziba also alleged that the attack was meant to scare his fellow leaders and activists. “I will request the returning officer to ensure that all candidates can run their campaigns peacefully,” he added.
Barisal Airport police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AR Mukul said: “We only heard about a minor issue between men under Barisal 2 BNP candidate Sardar Sarfuddin Ahmad and a group of Chhatra League members at the airport.”
