Three people were injured in the clash that ensued
A Jubo Dal leader’s home was torched and his family beaten up by Awami League men in Bogra’s Dhunat.
Murad Hossain’s home in Rangamati Kumarkhali village of Dhunat was torched around Monday 11pm.
“Alangi union Chairman Ma Tarek Helal led the arson attack. Action will be taken against those involved if the victims press charges,” Dhunat police Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune.
Murad said around 40-50 of Helal’s men attacked his home at night, set fire to his home and beat up his uncle Abdul Kader.
“Around Tk8 lakh worth of goods and furniture were destroyed in the fire,” he said.
He said he lived away from his home.
“Helal’s plan was to murder me,” he added.
Earlier, Chhatra Dal activists Nahid Hasan and Masud Rana, Murad’s cousins, were beaten up in Alangi Bazar.
Murad said he would file a case against the Awami League men.
MA Tarek Helal strongly denied the allegations.
“Murad Hossain is a criminal. He has six or seven cases against him. A few days ago, Alangi union Prajanma League General Secretary Muktar Hossain was seriously injured in his attack. He filed a case against Murad,” he said.
“He set the fire himself in order to escape the criminal charges,” he added.
Dhunat Fire Service Station Officer Shamim Reza said: “Miscreants set fire to Murad Hossains’ house in Rangamati village.”
