Police arrest BNP’s Gazipur 5 candidate Milon

According to the law enforcement agency, Fazlul Haque Milon was facing a warrent for his arrest

Members of local detective branch (DB) on Thursday afternoon arrested BNP candidate from Gazipur 5 constituency Fazlul Haque Milon from his residence at Bortul village in Kaliganj upazila of the district.

Superintendent of Gazipur Police Shamsunnahar told the Dhaka Tribune that there were seven different outstanding arrest warrants against him, filed with multiple police stations in Dhaka city.

Parvin Akter, Milon’s lawyer claimed that his client was granted bail in all the cases.

Parvi, who was present during his arrest, also said Milon was about to meet with his supporters waiting outside his house, when Special Branch officer verified Milon’s presence and informed DB soon after.

“Milon was about to attend the meeting, along with his bail papers when a 30-member DB team forced their way into his house, dispersing the crowd in the process and forcibly taking him with them,” she said.

Ten aides of Milon were picked up by the police later when they were trying to meet the district returning officer’s office to inform him about the candidate’s arrest.

Sakhawat Hossain Sabuj, joint secretary of Kaliganj BNP unit, said Milon was threatened over phone by unidentified people not to show up in his constituency.

He also alleged that police were waiting for arrest him soon after he showed up at his residence, citing previous unsuccessful raids at his home.
