Abdur Rab and Mahmudur Rahman Manna were offering fateha at Shah Kabir’s mazar in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan area
Senior Jatiya Oikya Front leaders ASM Abdur Rab and Mahmudur Rahman Manna were allegedly hindered from conducting election campaigns in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan area.
The incident occurred in the Dhaka 18 constituency on Thursday afternoon, reports UNB.
The duo, along with Oikya Front's candidate for Dhaka 18 Shahiduddin Mahmud Swapan, was offering fateha at Shah Kabir's mazar at Uttarkhan to conduct election campaigns in the area.
However, several hundred Awami League local leaders and activists assembled on the mazar premises and started shouting slogans in favour of the “boat” symbol.
At one point, Rob and Manna along with their supporters left the mazar without conducting the campaign.
Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna told reporters the ruling party men are blocking Oikya Front candidates across Bangladesh from electioneering.
He said their alliance would remain in the polls till the end despite the adverse situation.
The Oikya Front leader called upon their leaders and activists to get ready to guard polling stations on December 30, braving all barriers.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) President ASM Abdur Rab urged the police to be neutral and help ensure a level playing field.
Swapan, a JSD leader, was nominated by the Oikya Front to contest the election with the “sheaf of paddy” symbol from Dhaka 18 constituency.
