Rizvi says the cricketer draws a salary from the government
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi says cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is on a government salary and that his candidacy is not valid.
He made the statement during a press briefing at BNP's Naya Paltan headquarters on Saturday.
Rizvi said: “The court is cancelling the candidacies of BNP candidates which the Election Commission approved and even allocated a symbol to our candidates.
“This is a conspiracy against us and the Election Commission has to bear the responsibility. This type of incident has never happened before in Bangladesh.”
Rizvi further said: “The law enforcement agencies have made mass arrests of our party leaders and activists nationwide, ahead of the election. There will be more arrests from today (Saturday) night as they have made a list of our polling agents and activists to arrest before the election.”
The senior BNP leader also demanded the immediate release of all arrested BNP leaders and activists.
