Around 52% of the candidates in the elections are involved in various businesses
Around 52% of the candidates contesting in the upcoming 11th parliamentary elections are business owners.
Out of the 1,842 candidates, 961 are involved in various businesses, according to an analysis by Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), a civil society platform,which was revealed at a press conference at the National Press Club on Monday.

The analysis showed that 184 candidates (64.11%) of Jatiya Oikya Front and the BNP-led 20-party alliance are involved in various businesses, followed by 180 candidates from the Awami League-led grand alliance, and 123 candidates from Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
Although legal professionals were once the dominant group in previous electoral races, this time, only 157 (8.5%) of the total candidates are lawyers.
As for the rest, about 16% of the candidates are service-holders, 12% are other professionals, while 7.06% mentioned agriculture as their profession.
