The attackers are local members of Chhatra League, Priyanka alleged
Dr Sunsila Jabrin Priyanka, BNP candidate in Sherpur 1 constituency, and her followers came under attack during their election campaign in the Ghughurakandi area of Sherpur Sadar upazila on Monday.
Priyanka alleged that the local activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student front of Awami League, launched the attack on her campaign.
“I was attacked along with my supporters by the cadres of Chhatra League during (my) election campaign today,” she told the Dhaka Tribune on Monday evening. “My car was also vandalized.”

She further alleged that when she filed an official complaint with the authorities concerned, 13 of her injured campaigners were arrested instead of the attackers.
“We submitted an official complaint at the deputy commissioner’s office. But instead of taking any steps, they arrested my people who were injured in the attack,” she told the Dhaka Tribune.
She said she hoped the police and the army would play a neutral and effective role to ensure a free and fair election. “They are the last hope of the people,” she added.
Priyanka, 25, is the youngest ever candidate fielded by BNP in a general election.
