Fans have been doing door-to-door campaign for the celebrated cricketer in the constituency
Sumona Haque, wife of national cricket captain and Awami League Narail 2 candidate Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, campaigned for her husband on Tuesday.
Accompanied by her family members as well as local female leaders of the ruling party, Sumona campaigned for Mashrafe in Erenda, Basupati, Roygram, Kalagachhi and several other unions in the district’s Lohagara upazila.
Mashrafe, captain of Bangladesh national ODI cricket team, is running for office from Narail 2 constituency – which comprises Lohagara and parts of Narail sadar – in the 11th general election due on Sunday.
The famed cricketer also campaigned for himself in several unions under Lohagara upazila on Tuesday.
Starting around 11am, he went to Kashipur, Amada, Lakshmipasha, Dighaliya, Kalagachhi and Baradiya unions, among others.
Later in the afternoon, he addressed a mass rally organized in the compounds of Dighaliya High School, before going back to Narail sadar to attend a meeting.
Sumona later joined Mashrafe in his campaign.
Mashrafe started campaigning for the boat symbol three days ago, but a huge number of his fans – from both home and outside districts – spontaneously took up the task of campaigning as soon as he was given the Awmai League ticket for the election.
Many of Mashrafe’s campaigners have travelled to Narail from Bogra, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Khulna and Gopalganj.
They are going door to door to engage with voters and campaign for Mashrafe, along with the local Awami League leaders and activists.
Mashrafe was greeted with cheer when he reached Dighaliya for street rallies. Locals waited in line for hours to get a glimpse of their favourite cricket star and to offer him their home-made pithas (rice cakes).
