BNP nominated candidate from Comilla 5 (Burichong-Brahmanpara) Prof Yunus came under attack, on Thursday, during his campaign in the constituency.

The attack took place in Burichong upazila while he was there campaigning, where attackers vandalized his car and assaulted 10 activists, including his son, said Kabir Hossain, steering committee coordinator for Yunus’s campaign.

According to Kabir, a 35 member team launched the attack in the midst of their campaign, injuring Yunus’s son Mehedi Hasan Sumon, the driver Alamgir Hossain, and other party activists of the upazila.

Burichong police station Officer-in-Charge, Akul Chandra Biswas, said the police had rescued Prof Yunus from the scene and brought him back to his house in Comilla. However the attackers had already fled the scene.

No complaints were filed yet, however legal actions following primary investigation shall be taken once a complaint is filed, he added.
