Pathao, Uber, Shohoz, and OBHAI will all suspend motorcycle services from Saturday till Wednesday, while car services will be suspended on election day

Ride-sharing service providers are set to follow the directives issued by the Election Commission regarding the restriction of motor vehicles during the 11th general election, representatives of ride-sharing companies have said.

According to a notification issued by the commission on Friday, the use of motorcycles will be disallowed across the country for four days, from 12am on Saturday, December 29, till 12am on Wednesday, January 2.

Meanwhile, the use of private cars will be banned for the entirety of the election day, on Sunday, December 30.

Sayeda Nabila Mahabub, lead marketing manager of Pathao, told the Dhaka Tribune: “We are yet to receive directions from the Election Commission regarding the operation of ride sharing services. As the EC has imposed a ban on the operation of motorcycles, Pathao will disable our motorcycle services for the specified period for the sake of a peaceful election.”
