Saki alleges his agents were prevented from entering polling centres by AL activists
Gonosanghati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has boycotted the 11th general polls claiming it to be farce.
Saki, also one of the candidates from the Dhaka 12 constituency, made the statement while addressing journalists at a press briefing held at his party office in Hatirpool, Dhaka on Sunday.
He alleged that many of his agents were prevented from entering polling centres and were assaulted by ruling party activists since Sunday morning.
Saki said: “Although many political parties participated in this election despite many hurdles and obstructions from the ruling party, citizens of the country could not take part in it.
He also condemned the Election Commission for failing to ensure a free, fair, and participatory election.
“We reject this election, and call for a re-election by an impartial Election Commission,” said Saki, adding that he had received news of massive irregularities in all three constituencies that the party's candidates had contested from.
Gonosanghati Andolon candidates - Julhasnain Babu contested from Pabna 1 and Hasan Maruf Rumi contested from the Chittagong 10 constituencies.
Gonosanghati Andolon Taslima Akhter alleged that many of their polling agents were forced out by members of law enforcement agencies.
“Voters also complained that they were prevented from voting and asked to leave the polling centres,” she added.
