Bangladesh Chhatra League will emerge victorious in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) polls, Tofail Ahmed predicted

Awami League Presidium Council member Tofail Ahmed has expressed confidence about the victory of Bangladesh Chhatra League in the Dhaka University Students Union polls scheduled to be held on March 11.

Bangladesh Chhatra League will emerge victorious in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) polls, Tofail Ahmed predicted.

He made the remarks at the 71st founding anniversary program of BCL held at the Dhaka University campus on Saturday.

“I’m confident that Chhatra League will lead Ducsu,” said Tofail, also former vice president of the 1970 Ducsu executive body.

Chhatra League Central Committee General Secretary Golam Rabbani conducted the function while President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon presided over it.

A colourful procession was brought out from the university’s Faculty of Fine Arts building which paraded important streets of the city. Former and incumbent leaders and activists of the ruling student front from different units were present at the rally.

The day was celebrated amidst much festivity with various performances and rallies.

Earlier, they had declared a two week long program for January 4 but due to the sudden death of Awami League presidium member Syed Ashraful Islam, they postponed all their scheduled programs.

A draft electoral code of conduct for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) and hall union elections has already been sent to student organizations for their recommendations.

A total of 39 sub-sections are included under 14 sections in the draft electoral code of conduct.

Student fronts have been requested to submit recommendations for or opinion on the electoral code to the proctor’s office by Saturday, the DU proctor confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune.

Mixed reactions were seen among student organizations about the draft code of conduct.

Bangladesh Chhatra Federation and Socialist Student Front said they would officially convey their reactions in separate press briefings.

Ducsu was formed three years after Dhaka University was established in 1921.

Bangladesh Chhatra League was founded on January 4, 1948.

Since then, no electoral code of conduct has been introduced regarding the promotion of candidates and campaigning for votes during the elections.
