The deadline to submit nomination papers is February 11
Awami League has started selling nomination forms to those who want to contest the first-phase upazila elections on party tickets.
The party stated selling the nomination forms on Monday morning, for the election which will be held on March 10, reports UNB.
The sale of nomination forms started at the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office, in Dhanmondi, with the sale of a nomination paper to Asadul Haque—an aspirant from Kendua Upazilla—for the chairman post.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader inaugurated the sale of nomination papers.
He said the local government election steering committee will announce the names of the Awami League nominated candidates on February 8.
According to the Election Commission, elections for 87 upazila parishads will be held on March 10 in the first phase.
The deadline to submit nomination papers is February 11; while the deadline to withdraw is February 19.
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed unveiled the schedule for the first-phase upazila elections at a press conference, at the Nirbachan Bhaban, on Sunday.
Earlier, the Commission said the fifth upazila parishad elections will be held in five phases from March; while in 2014, elections in 487 upazilas were held in six phases between February and May.
According to electoral law, an election for an upazila council must take place at least six months before the tenure of the local government body expires.
