Awami League candidate alleges that Gurudaspur UNO Mohammad Monir Hossain and OC Selim Reza have been aiding opposition activists in the run of the election
The nirbahi officer (UNO) and officer-in-charge (OC) of in Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila were withdrawn on Thursday following a complaint lodged by a chairman candidate, endorsed by Awami League in the upcoming upazila polls.
Confirming the news, Natore’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Razzaqul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the decision of withdrawing was made following a letter by Md Shahidur Rahman, assistant secretary to the Election Commission secretariat, to the Ministry of Public earlier Thursday.
Awami League candidate for upazila chairman, Zahidul Islam filed a written complaint against Gurudaspur UNO Mohammad Monir Hossain and OC Selim Reza, alleging that the aforementioned duo were endorsing and aiding opposition activists ahead of the election.
Election Commission’s Returning Officer Rahim Hossain has already forwarded the letter to the local authorities asking to implement the withdrawal in three days.
The upazila parishad election to Natore’s Gurudaspur is scheduled to be held March 10.
