DSCC, DNCC polls are slated to be held on January 30, 2020
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam have expressed their optimism about being nominated from ruling Awami League for the Dhaka City polls again.
They made the remarks while addressing an event, jointly organized by DNCC and DSCC, accorded to freedom fighters and their families at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Mayor Sayeed Khokon said: "We have successfully overcome some vital crises of the city, including water-logging in many regions [under his jurisdiction] of Dhaka.
"All areas under Dhaka South City Corporation have been developing gradually."
Responding a query, he said electronic voting machines (EVM) are likely to be used in this election by maintaining the regulations of the local government.
DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam said: "Our priority is to build a smart city by finding a solution for the constant traffic jam in Dhaka. If I am elected, I will work on developing the city by cooperating with other organizations."
The elections to Dhaka North and South City Corporation are slated to be held on January 30, 2020.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the schedule at his office on Sunday evening. The last date for submitting nomination papers is December 31, 2019.
