Tenure of current Election Commission will expire in February 2022
The new Election Commission should be formed after all political parties of Bangladesh meet and reach a consensus on the matter to make it acceptable to all, commission chief KM Nurul Huda has said.
The chief election commissioner was speaking to journalists at the Election Commission Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The tenure of the current Election Commission will expire in February 2022.
Incumbent commissions have no legal right to express opinions on the formation of the next one, CEC Huda said.

The Election Commission is a constitutional body, he said, adding that it has had no talks with the Law Ministry on its reconstitution either.
Asked about the enactment of a law in this regard, Huda said it cannot be said for sure whether a law will ensure trust among all political parties until it is actually in force.
The Election Commission is not responsible for building consensus among political parties and has no legal right to do so either, he added.
It is rather the president who can talk to the leaders of all political parties on the issue, the CEC said.
