Chittagong district admin asks people at risk of landslide to move to safer places

According to the district administration, there are 28 hills in the district which fall under the vulnerable status

To avoid landslide-related casualties, Chittagong District Administration has been using loudspeakers to urge people at risk of landslides to move to safer places. 

Md Delwar Hossain, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) confirmed the matter.

According to the district administration, there are 28 hills in the district, under different government, autonomous and private organizations, including Bangladesh Railway, Public Works Department, Chittagong WASA, and the Chittagong City Corporation, which fall under the vulnerable status.

The hills under Bangladesh Railway include- foothills of CRB hill, the hill adjacent to Lalkhan-Tigerpass, southwestern corner of Tigerpass intersection, hill adjacent to Railway Employees' Girl's School and the hill adjacent to Akbar Shah residential area.

Mozaffarnagar, Prabartak hill, Golpahar, Ispahani hill, Joypahar, Chatteswari hill, Foy's Lake residential area hill, hill adjacent to Jalalabad housing society, hill adjacent to Baitul Aman housing society, Miyar pahar, hill beside the Forest Research Institute Academy, the western side of the hill beside the Ispahani hill, and the hill adjacent to Blossom Garden beside CDA Avenue Road are owned privately.

On the other hand, the hill adjacent to Forest Research Institute and Laboratory, the area around the flower garden in DC hill, Chittagong City Corporation hill, AK Khan and co hill, Chittagong University hill, hill adjacent to Lalkhan bazar near the Islami Madrasa on Chandmari road, the hill near Nasirabad industrial area, and the hill in the residential area of the Lake City fall under government or autonomous institutions. 

According to the Chittagong Patenga Met Office, 64.7 mm rainfall was recorded in the last 24-hour till 3pm on Sunday.  

So far, the district administration has listed 684 families who are living on these foothills which stand at the risk of landslides.
