Voters will have to cover themselves in warm clothes while going to cast their votes today as a severe cold wave will be engulfing Bangladesh on election day.
Kurigram’s Rajaharhat recorded this year lowest temperature — 5.2 degrees Celsius — on Saturday as the country began to experience cold wave.
According to the Met Office, a severe cold wave is sweeping over regions of Rajshahi, Panchagarh, Dinajpur, Kurigram and Chuadanga, and this may continue for the next two-three days.
A forecast issued on Saturday said the weather is expected to remain cold along with light to moderate fog.
Met Office sources said that extreme level of cold wave was recorded in Rajshahi, Panchagarh, Dinajpur, Kurigram and Chuadanga region, while moderate cold wave was found in Sandwip, Sitakunda, Rangamati, Comilla, Feni and Srimangal; and it might continue.
Any temperature that falls below 6 degrees Celsius is an extreme cold wave, while 6-8 degrees Celsius is moderate and 8-10 degrees Celsius is light cold wave.
Dhaka recorded 11.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while Mymensingh had 8.3 degrees Celsius, Chittagong had 10.6 degrees Celsius, Sylhet had 12.3 degrees Celsius, Rajshahi had 5.8 degrees Celsius, Rangpur had 7.2 degrees Celsius, Khulna had 8 degrees Celsius and Barisal had 6.5 degrees Celsius.
