Dhaka International Foto Fest 2019 begins at DU

This exhibition is open for all visitors and will continue from 11am to 8pm every day.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) have jointly organized the first-ever Dhaka International Foto Fest 2019 at the university premises and other venues.

The event was launched on Sunday through a rally at the Dhaka University premises.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the program by participating in the rally. Student Adviser of Teacher-Student Centre(TSC) of Dhaka University Dr Soumitra Shekhar was present. Professor Sadeka Halim, dean of Faculty of Social Science inaugurated the Gallery no 5 and 6 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The event, sponsored by Bangladesh Tourism Board and US- Bangla Airlines, will feature photographic competition and exhibitions for photographers from different countries, 12th annual exhibition of DUPS, seminar and workshops.  It will continue till January 30 at TSC and gallery 5 & 6 of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises.

This exhibition is open for all visitors and will continue from 11am to 8pm every day.

DUPS organizes photography festivalsannually to promote the art of photography in Bangladesh. This is the first time the society has organized an event on an international scale.

In this fest, 145 single photographs taken by photographers of Bangladesh along with photographers of seven other countries will be featured. Moreover, 16 photo stories are being exhibited. There are two categories in theexhibition, single category and portfolio category. Selected photographs from 12th Annual Photography Exhibition of DUPS will also be exhibited. 

A panel of judges picked 111 photographs out of 6,537 photos in single category, 16 photo stories out of 97 photo stories in portfolio category from photographers worldwide, and 34 photographs of DUPS members. The Judge panel were photographer Abir Abdullah, principal of Pathsahala South Asian Media Institute, Saiful Huq omi, principal of Counter Foto and photographer Taslima Akhter. 

On January 30, the closing day, Manzoor Alam Beg, a pioneer in the photography movement of Bangladesh, will be awarded ‘Lifetime Achievement (Posthumous)’ on behalf of the Dhaka University Photographic Society.
