Indian home minister praises Bangladesh government for stamping out militancy in Tripura
Indian Home Minister Rajanth Singh has heaped praise on the Sheikh Hasina-led Bangladesh government for stamping out militancy in Tripura by cracking down on militant hideouts in Bangladesh. “Many insurgents from Northeast India, including Tripura, had their hideouts in Bangladesh. The government of Bangladesh has wiped them out. And thus, peace has been restored in Tripura,” the Indian minister said at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally in Agartala on Monday. “It was possible owing to the goodwill between the Government of Bangladesh and  the BJP-led Government of India,” Singh added. Meanwhile, according to official sources, Tripura Election Commissioner Sriram Taranikanti had earlier asked the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to intensify patrols along the border. The order reportedly came in the wake of a huge cache of arms and ammunition being recovered by Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from the Chunarughat area of Habiganj, Sylhet. The poster of an insurgent group from Tripura was among the items recovered.
