Dhaka hopes to win OIC assistant secretary post

Update : 05 May 2018, 01:24 AM
Bangladesh has geared up its campaign to garner support for its candidate for the post of assistant secretary general for science and technology at the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC). Kamrul Ahsan, secretary (bilateral and consular affairs wing) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been nominated for the post. Elections in this regard will be held during the 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), starting in Dhaka today. OIC member state Kazakhstan also filed a candidate for the post, a ministry official said, adding that Bangladesh, as the host of the CFM, wants to see a positive result. The official hoped Bangladesh would get the support of 10 out of 18 countries required to win the election. “This is important to carry out an extensive campaign for the Bangladeshi candidate once the foreign delegates arrive in Dhaka.”
