Lt Gen Hokanson lauded Bangladesh’s strong support for security cooperation between Bangladesh Army and the US National Guard

Lt Gen Daniel R Hokanson, the vice chief of the US National Guard Bureau, has praised Bangladesh Army for its remarkable achievements since its inception.

Complimenting Bangladesh Army’s military leadership capabilities and significant contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions, he added that the international community is very impressed by these accomplishments.

Lt Gen Hokanson commented this while speaking as the guest of honour at the 47th Armed Forces Day reception – at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of Bangladesh’s Embassy in Washington, DC – on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by the embassy.

He continued: “As part of the UN peacekeeping missions, 7,000 Bangladeshi troops and police personnel across the globe are providing security, as well as assistance, in areas such as medical care and engineering expertise.

“Bangladesh deserves high praise for its generous humanitarian efforts and providing shelter to one million Rohingya refugees.”

Lt Gen Hokanson also lauded Bangladesh’s strong support for security cooperation between Bangladesh Army and the US National Guard—which began in 2008.

He added: “Working together, learning from each other and sharing resources, the two forces have become stronger together—to address challenges posed by increasing conflicts in regions and global security environment.

“Our security cooperation has also deepened our understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.”

Lt Gen Hokanson also commended Bangladesh Army’s remarkable contribution to defense and security, not only of Bangladesh, but also of the international community.

Deputy Chief of the Army Reserve of USA Maj Gen AC Roper attended the event, on behalf of the Pentagon – as a special guest – along with Bangladesh Ambassador to US Md Ziauddin and Defense Attaché Brig Gen Moinul Hassan.

Ambassadors of various countries; officials from the Pentagon – the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense – ; and personnel from the Bangladesh Army were present at the event—among many others.
