Around 22 officials and employees of Bangladesh high commissions in Delhi and Kolkata have tested positive with Covid-19
At least 100 employees, including diplomats, working at several Bangladesh high commissions in India have tested Covid-19 positive.
In Delhi, around 10 to 12 employees of Bangladesh High Commission tested positive with Covid-19. And, in Kolkata, 22 employees were tested Covid-19.
The respective officials of the Bangladesh High Commission offices in the two major cities confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.
Bangladesh High Commissioner in Delhi Md Imran said: "I have instructed all officials and employees working in Bangladeshi missions in India to take the Covid-19 vaccine."
“Currently, there are 10 to 12 Covid-19 patients in Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. We are currently working from home and all have been directed to not go out unless there’s an emergency,” he said.
Meanwhile, an official of Bangladesh High Commission in Kolkata said around 22 patients are currently undergoing treatment for Covid-19.
Earlier, another 30 people had tested Covid-19 positive who have completely recovered.
Due to the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections, there is a rise in Covid-19 cases, he said.
After the results are announced in the first week of May, there’s a possibility of lockdown.
The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to end on May 2.
India is facing a huge crisis due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases. Approximately, 300,000 new cases are recorded every single day and many patients are dying to due lack of oxygen cylinders.
