President Abdul Hamid is set to virtually take part in the second summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Science and Technology, hosted by Kazakhstan, on Wednesday afternoon.

The president's press secretary, Mohammad Joynal Abedin, told UNB that the OIC General Secretariat would arrange the summit online, with the theme “Science, Technology and Innovation: Opening New Horizons," where President Hamid is set to deliver his speech via videoconference, from his official residence Bangabhaban in Dhaka.

“The summit is expected to discuss issues of science, technology, education, health, water, environment, renewable energy and the use of technology to ensure food security in the Muslim world,” he added.

The president also attended the first OIC summit on science and technology, which was also held in Kazakhstan, in 2017.

The OIC was founded in 1969 and currently has 57 members, 56 of whom are also member states of the United Nations with 42 countries being Muslim-majority countries.

It is dedicated to working for "safeguarding and protecting the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony."
