The seven-member committee formed by the government to review the quota system in public service has been given another 90 working days to complete its task.
ThePublic Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Thursday, reports UNB.
According to the notification, the tenure of the committee has been extended by 90 working days in addition to the original 15 days.
The government formed the seven-member committee, with Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam as its convener, on July 2.
The other members of the committee are secretaries of the Public Administration, Finance Division, Liberation War Affairs Ministry, Legislative Division, as well as the PSC and PMO acting secretary.
The panel held a meeting to review recommendations on the quota system by several public service reform committees and the Public Service Commission on July 8.
In April, students of public and private universities across the country waged a movement demanding reforms to the quota system.
In the face of the movement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the abolition of all types of quotas in public jobs, at Parliament on April 11.
As a gazette notification in this regard is yet to be issued, the leaders of the reform movement gathered in front DU central library on Saturday to hold a pre-scheduled press conference and announce a fresh movement.
However, Bangladesh Chhatra League activists reportedly attacked them, triggering protests at different universities across the country.
