The nine point demands placed by students to improve road safety and discipline in transport sector will be fully implemented once the new law comes into effect, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Sunday.
“The draft Road Transport Act will get approval from the cabinet meeting tomorrow (Monday), chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Then the bill will go to parliament and will be passed in the next parliamentary session,” Quader, also Awami League general secretary, told reporters at Awami League president's office in Dhanmondi 3/A.
“Then the nine point demands, which have not been implemented yet because of legal limitations, will be implemented properly,” said the minister.
Quader also claimed that the attack on the Awami League office in Dhanmondi was done by those who are trying to divert the protest demanding safe road to evict the government through political game.
“They showed the audacity of attacking this office,” he said.
“The prime minister has asked us to deal with this movement with patience and has asked us not to put any pressure on the students,” he claimed.
“Today, the prime minister has asked the students, guardians and teachers to return from the streets and we found that students are going back to their classes responding to this call,” he said.
The students have not taken took position in streets except one two places, said Quader, thanking the students who went back.
