The government is setting up a monitoring cell to detect rumours on social media, State Minister for Information Tarana Halim says.
The 'Rumour Identification and Removal Centre' will be in operation round-the-clock at the PID section of Information Ministry from this month, she told reporters on Wednesday, reports UNB.
If any rumour is detected, the cell will issue a press release to inform the media within three hours, Tarana added.
Seven experts will be appointed to work in each shift in the cell.
Tarana claimed that the BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami have opened a publicity cell in London and spreading rumours using 300 websites.
Our cell will be opened to raise awareness among the people, she said, replying to a question.
