Nowfel made deputy minister for education

The eldest son of late heavyweight Awami League leader ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was elected MP from Chittagong 9 in the 11th general election

After being elected a member of parliament for the first time, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel is now all set to serve as the deputy minister for education in the newly formed Cabinet of Sheikh Hasina.

The eldest son of former Chittagong city mayorand late Awami League heavyweight ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhurywas elected MP from the Chittagong 9 constituencyin the 11th general election, held on December 30.

He had defeated BNP's metropolitan unit President Dr Shahadat Hossain by a wide margin.

Awami League's student and youth fronts distributed sweets and brought out jubilant procession in his constituency immediately after the news of Nowfel getting a berth in the Cabinet broke out on Sunday evening.

Cabinet Secretary Md Shafiul Alam at a press conference had announced the list of ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers of the new Cabinet.

Born on June 26, 1983, Nowfel came to the fore while working for his father during the mayoral elections in 2010.

A graduate from the London School of Economics, Nowfel also became an executive member of the Chittagong city Awami League in 2014.

Later in 2016, Nowfel was made one of the organizing secretaries in the ruling Awami League.

An emerging and young politician, Nowfel has already achieved huge popularity in the political field through his organizational and social activities.

People of Chittagong have expressed hope that Nowfel will discharge his duties honestly and responsibly as the deputy minister for education like his fatherdid as the mayor of the port city.
