Quader: Govt job age limit hike by March only a rumour

The road transport and bridges minister says the government is yet to make a decision

Update : 16 Feb 2019, 02:24 PM

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that all news regarding a possible raising of the age limit for government jobs to 35 within March is only a rumor.

He made the disclosure at a press briefing at Awami League's president's political office in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area on Saturday.

"I did not say anything about raising the age limit to 35 for government jobs. Some newspapers are spreading rumours by falsely quoting me," he said.

Quader, who is also the road transport and bridges minister, said the government is yet to take a decision regarding the matter.

‘War crimes trial to continue even if Jamaat apologizes’

Obaidul Quader on Saturday also said that the war crimes trial would continue even if Jamaat-e-Islami apologizes for its crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

"It is not yet clear why Jamaat has brought up the matter after 47 years of independence. It might be their political strategy. However, they have not yet officially said anything in this regard,” he said.

“Even if they seek mercy, the trial of the war criminals which is underway will not stop," said the ruling party leader.

Responding to another question, he said: "What would be the big difference if Jamaat changes its name... It will be like old wine in a new bottle. It is all the same if the same old ideology remains concealed under the new name."
