The ministry directed the DSHE to take further action in this regard on Sunday
The Ministry of Education has issued a directive to the effect that teachers of private schools, colleges and madrasas who have served for more than 10 years be paid under the higher grade of the pay scale, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Secretary Mahbub Hossain told Dhaka Tribune.
The ministry directed the DSHE to take further action in this regard on Sunday, he said.
On November 24, a decision on paying teachers who have served more than 10 years under the higher grade was taken at a meeting of the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) Committee chaired by DSHE Director General (DG) Prof Syed Golam Faruk.
Following the meeting, Prof Syed Golam Faruk had said: “When we get directives and instructions from the ministry, we will take steps to receive applications for implementing the higher grade payment scheme.”
The Finance Ministry sent a letter to the Education Ministry with clarifications on the matter on May 31.
DSHE Secretary Mahbub Hossain said the issue of teachers getting paid under the higher grade had been stuck with the Education Ministry for a long time.
“However, the memorandum from the Finance Department regarding the provision of higher grade pay scale to MPO-listed teachers and employees of private educational institutions has clarified the matter,” he added.
In addition, the Ministry of Finance has been requested to take necessary steps to ensure the new scheme.
The DSHE secretary further said: “Teachers will be paid under the higher grade after completing 10 years of service. The matter of teachers who have completed more than 16 years of service getting paid under the second higher grade is yet to be decided on by the court.”
