An eighth grade student from Tangail Collectorate Girl’s School and College has written to the district deputy commissioner (DC) to ask for his help in stopping her child marriage.
In the hand-written letter, posted on the Bangladesh Administrative Service Facebook page, 14-year-old Lovely Akhter claims that her father, Md Lavlu Mia, was forcing her to marry against her will despite her being underage.
“They are forcing me to leave my home in Gopalpur and taking me to Tangail,” Lovely says in her letter.
Lovely adds that she saw no other option but to pen the letter to the DC as her objections to her own child marriage had fallen on deaf ears.
The Bangladesh Administrative Service mentioned in the Facebook post that the DC had ordered the marriage to be stopped upon receiving the letter.
