A yearly review was published by ASK in press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity
Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), in its yearly review, showed that extrajudicial killings across Bangladesh have reached the highest in 2018, compared to the past six years.
There has been an alarming rise in cases of extrajudicial killings with 466 killed in 2018.
The yearly review was published by human rights organization ASK in press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Thursday.
Among these killings, a total 292 suspects were killed countrywide in anti-drug raids conducted by law enforcers from May 4 to December 31 last year, said the review.

In comparison, a total of 162 suspects were killed by law enforcers during encounters, crossfire, gunfight, shootouts and under custody in 2017. The number was 195 in 2016, 192 in 2015, 158 in 2014 and 208 in 2013.
Addressing the event, ASK Executive Director Sheepa Hafiza said: “No one in this democratic and independent country has the jurisdiction to perform extrajudicial killings.
“We have been requesting the formation of an independent commission by the government to probe these killings. However, the authorities are yet to respond in this regard.”
ASK Deputy Director Nina Goswami and Bangladesh and South Asia Regional Director Tahmina Rahman of Article 19 were present at the event among many others.
