At least two Bangladeshi migrants died from freezing weather while attempting to illegally enter Italy from Croatia on Tuesday night.

The deceased were identified as Mahamudul Hasan Rihan, 27, and Aliur Rahman Razu, 22. Both were residents of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj, Sylhet.

Razu’s uncle Md Arash Khan Bhashani told Dhaka Tribune: “My son, who is in London now, informed us about Razu’s death at around 3am on Tuesday.

“Razu had studied till SSC. He went to Turkey three years ago. From there, he moved to Greece. He tried to enter the European mainland 14 times from Greece, but he was sent back by airport authorities every time. He then managed to go to Bosnia.

“At one point, Razu and Rihan both moved from Bosnia to Croatia and they left for Italy from there by road. The temperature there was -6°C and they became stuck in the snow,” he added.
