Anti Terrorism Unit arrests suspected Hizb ut-Tahrir member

The arrestee was publishing Hizb ut-Tahrir’s activities online and recruiting new members

The Anti Terrorism Unit has arrested a suspected member of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.

The arrestee, Riaz Uddin Sipai, is said to be an IT specialist and active member of the banned organization.

He was arrested on May 9 in Shuvadda area of Keraniganj upazila, Dhaka.

The Anti Terrorism Unit confirmed the matter via a press release signed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mahiduzzaman the same day.

The press release said the team acted on a tip-off and conducted a raid that led to the arrest of Riaz.

He was working as a coordinator for Hizb ut-Tahrir in-and-around several areas of Dhaka including: Jagannath University, South Keraniganj, Shampur, Dhoniya and Gandaria, the release read.

Riaz was also publishing their activities online and recruiting members.

A case against him has been filed under the Anti Terrorism Act at the South Keraniganj police station.
