PM Hasina: Don’t pay heed to propaganda

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged all not to pay heed to propaganda, after mentioning the recent rumours over the scarcity of onion and salt in the market.

“We see sometimes that confusion is created by spreading propaganda. So I would like to tell everybody not to pay heed to this propaganda,” she said while addressing a reception at the Army Multipurpose Complex at the Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday, reports BSS.

The premier said various kinds of propaganda regarding onion, salt, etc are being publicized to confuse the people.

“I know that it will happen [propaganda will spread] and it’s normal. But we have to move on facing all this,” she said.

Her comments came as a vested quarter is now engaged in the country in spreading various types of propaganda including price hike of essential commodities like onions, salt and rice to misguide the people.

The prime minister accorded the reception to the successors of Bir Sreshthas and other gallantry award-recipient freedom fighters of the armed forces on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day-2019.

The prime minister said there will be economic development in the country if peace and security prevail.

“So, the ongoing drive against terrorism, militancy and corruption will be continued as we are striding so that the people of the country can live in peace,” she said addressing a reception at Senakunja of Dhaka Cantonment.

The prime minister said as a dignified nation it has consolidated its position in the world through massive development.

Sheikh Hasina reiterated her aim to build Bangladesh as a hunger and poverty-free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“Bangladesh has graduated to a developing country from a least developed one and it is our promise that we will surely materialize the dream of Bangabandhu,” she said.

“Our economy is strong enough. So, we want to build our country by ourselves and I want all to work from their respective positions with sincerity to build the nation,” she said.

The premier said she wants to advance the country without begging anything from anyone and bowing down to anybody, rather moving forward with head held high being a victorious nation of the Liberation War.

Bangladesh is one of the world’s fifth countries with regards to the economic development and is currently implementing 90% of the development works with own finance, she added.

Welfare for freedom fighters

The prime minister said Bangladesh has earned independence in exchange for the blood of millions of martyrs, and their sacrifices cannot go in vain.

Sheikh Hasina also renewed her firm determination to do everything necessary for the welfare of the freedom fighters and their successors.

“We are pledge-bound to ensure welfare and socioeconomic prosperity of the valiant freedom fighters. We are working to establish their highest dignity and honour as well as recognize their contributions to the war of liberation,” she said.

The prime minister said her government is implementing massive programs to ensure the welfare of the freedom fighters.

In this regard, she highlighted construction of a Muktijoddha Complex in all districts and upazilas of the country, preservation of places that carry the memory of war and construction of liberation war museums.

Armed forces hailed

Sheikh Hasina said the great task of safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty has been vested in the armed forces.

Apart from performing this sacred responsibility, she said, the members of the patriotic armed forces have been continuously extending necessary support to various fields including combating natural disasters, constructing infrastructure and maintaining law and order.

Expressing hope that the armed forces would play an effective role to continue the democratic trend with the sense of the highest responsibility, she said: “I firmly believe the commitment of the armed forces will continue for the noble cause of building the country by maintaining the chain of command being responsible to the Constitution.”

The premier appreciated the armed forces for their successes to attain universal recognition for its honesty, sincerity, efficiency and multifaceted services for the welfare of the people.

Describing the armed forces as a symbol of independence and sovereignty, she recalled their contribution and services towards humanity and the role in safeguarding the lives and property during any natural disasters side by side protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty.

In this context, the premier appreciated the role of armed forces for successfully handling the recent cyclonic storm “Bulbul.”

“That is why we are implementing various welfare-oriented programs for the armed forces including modernization as well as physical and infrastructural development,” she said.

The prime minister thanked the Armed Forces Division, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force for taking initiatives to formally honour the freedom fighters.

She said on this historic day, the fearless armed forces members and mass people of the country launched a coordinated attack together against the Pakistani occupation forces.

“As a result our victory was sped up and we earned independent and sovereign Bangladesh,” she said.

She also handed over “Bishistho Seba Padak” to Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed, as well as peacetime “Bahini Padak” to nine army members, two navy members and three air force members.
