Arman Shiekh, 22, from Rampur Union of Companiganj Upazila in Noakhali, along with his brother-in-law Shahed Kamal Shujon, had set out from Brazil taking waterways toward USA on February 6. However, their daring voyage to Arman’s dream land met an unfortunate end when tumultuous waves overturned their boat during the night.
Shujon, however, survived the incident and is currently in the custody of authorities, who also recovered Arman’s body. At the time of filing this report, Iqbal Bahar, chairman of Rampur Union Parishad who earlier had spoken to Arman’s elder brother, could not confirm the nationality of the authorities who rescued Shujon.
Bahar said to the Dhaka Tribune that Shujon had contacted family members back home after the unfortunate event took place. He also added that Arman and Shujon had gone to Brazil four months back with the ultimate goal of entering the United States of America. The details of their voyage is still unknown.
Arman’s father Enamul Haque had lived in the US for a number of years, but currently lives in Bangladesh. Arman was the youngest of his five other siblings.
