
Law enforcers have arrested six people, including a woman, and seized gold bars and drug items in separate drives in Comilla and Bogra.
The drives were conducted on Thursday, and the estimated worth of the seized items is over Tk54 lakh, according to a press release issued from the highway police headquarters.
In Comilla, a highway police team intercepted a bus on Harisardar road in Chauddagram upazila and arrested one of its passengers Md Ashraful Karim Swapan,40, with 13 gold bars, worth Tk52 lakh, the press release said.
The arrestee is from Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni.
Another team, led by Maynamati Highway police Sub-Inspectors Md Alauddin and Monir Hossain, arrested three people and seized drugs, worth about TK 1,36,000, from them at a filling station on the Dhaka- Chittagong highway at Alekharchar under Kotwali police station in the same district.
They are Md Dulal Hossian,36, Bahar Mia,50, and Alamgir Hossain Rony,20, all from Comilla.
The police also seized a motorbike they were riding on.
In yet another drive in the district, a team of Eliotganj Highway Police Outpost arrested Md Shah Alam alias Chanchal, 23, with 3kg of ganja from Teerchar area under Chandina police station.
Shah Alam is a resident of Naria upazila in Shariatpur.
In Bogra, Banpara police arrested Mst Selina, 45, from Kachikata Toll Plaza area under Gurudaspur police station and seized 42 bottles of Phensedyl.
Arrested Selina, the wife of late Dulal Mia, is from Munshiganj’s Sreepur upazila.
Legal actions are being taken against all the arrestees, the press release said.
