Four electricians have been electrocuted while working on a high-voltage line of Power Development Board (PDB) in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha area.
The deceased are Khorshed Alam, 30, Ferdous Alam, 25, Ukil Hossain, 26 and Miltan Miah, 25.
“Four local electricians died on the spot around 11:30am on Wednesday while performing maintenance work on a high-voltage PDB line,” Hatibandha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syed Enamul Kabir told the Dhaka Tribune.
“Deputy Commissioner Abul Foyej Md Alauddin Khan has taken initiative to form a committee for investigating the incident,” he added.
Sirajul Islam, PDB’s Hatibandha resident engineer, said: “We are yet to know how they died. Someone might have hired them without informing me. We are looking into the matter.”
“PDB officials have to take the responsibility for the deaths,” Local UP Chairman Mohir Ali alleged. “They usually hire local electricians instead of working themselves. But after the accident, they are trying to evade the responsibility.”
He also demanded compensation for the families of the victims.
