A 25-year-old woman has gone on a hunger strike at her boyfriend’s home in Kurigram and has threatened to kill herself as he refused to marry her on Thursday.
Amal Chandra, 27, a resident of Mogolbasha union of the district, has been in a relationship with Shurbala Ray Shilpi, a resident of Durgapur union of the same district, for four years.
Recently, he started avoiding her as she asked him to marry her.
The 27-year-old unemployed Amal fled as Shilpi’s family went to his home and proposed marriage to him.
“Amal has promised to marry me. He has been in a physical relationship with me for a year now, but is denying it. He even started searching a bride for himself.
“I came to his home after hearing about it. I won’t leave the place till the moment he accepts me and marries me. I will be forced to kill myself if events turn otherwise,” she said.
According to locals, Amal’s family rejected the proposal and tried to drive her away.
Amal’s father Nibaron Chowdhury said: “My son is not home now. We are trying to contact him. We will make a decision after he returns home.”
However, Mogolbasa Union Parishad Chairman Nuruzzaman Babul said the matter will be solved with the involvement of both sides.
Shilpi has been staying at Amal’s place till the time the report was filed.
