
At least nine people have been killed and 27 others injured in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Mymensingh and Gaibandha districts.
In Dinajpur, three people were killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a mini-truck in Bhaduria area of Nababganj on Saturday morning.
The deceased are Ashik, 26, Aslam, 35, and Manik, 40. All of them hailed from Naogaon.
Nababganj police station's Officer-in-Charge Subrata Sarkar said the injured were admitted to Birampur Upazila Health Complex.
In a separate incident, three people were killed and 22 others injured after a bus fell into a roadside ditch in Raymoni area on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway early Saturday.
The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained yet.
Trishal police OC Md Miruzaman two Dhaka-bound buses of Islam Paribahan and Alam Asia Paribahan were racing each other on the highway.
“At a point, the driver of Islam Paribahan lost his balance and the bus fell into a roadside ditch leaving two people dead on the spot and 23 others injured,” he said.
Another person died after being taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Four of the injured are in critical condition, the OC added.
Meanwhile in Gaibandha, three people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between two trucks in Gobindaganj.
The deceased are Mohibul, 47, and Manu Mia, 45, both cattle traders. Identity of the third victim could not be known immediately.
Gobindaganj police's OC Abul Bashar said a Dhaka-bound cattle-laden truck collided head-on with a Rangpur-bound cement-loaded truck leaving two people dead on the spot.
The injured were taken to Gobindaganj Health Complex, where another person died.
“The bodies have been kept at the police station and will be handed over to their families soon,” OC Abul added.
