Despite being physically assaulted allegedly by a youth in Chittagong city’s Teribazar area, a female student of Chittagong University (CU) is being denied justice because of a business leader.
Although the incident took place on May 13, no legal action has been taken as yet since the business leader assured the student and her family of resolving the issue through an arbitration.
The victim, a third year student of Dramatics Department, alleged that the business leader now deliberately kept the matter pending.
She could not go to local police station or court due to her busyness with academic activities.
The victim said: “I went to Teribazar area on May 13 around 9pm to buy some materials where Jahangir, 18, a helper of a microbus made some indecent comments aiming at me as I was passing the area.
“Afterwards, me and the boy exchanged heated words. At one point, I slapped him and then he started beating up me before the bystanders,” she said.
Following the incident, Teribazar Traders Association’s General Secretary Md Mannan appeared the scene and tried to resolve the issue.
Later, Kotwali police station’s Sub-Inspector Nuruzzaman too rushed there to detain the culprit, but Mannan told him that he would settle the issue.
“He [Mannan] also urged me not to file a case,” she continued.
Ever since the incident, she and family members sat with Mannan several times, reaching no acceptable solution. He also assured them of going to the police station and help file a case if needed, but on May 22 he refused to do so.
However, she has decided to sue the criminal at a court.
“I want justice and now I will go to court to file a case,” she.
Despite repeated attempts, Mannan could not be reached over phone for his comments.
