Madrasa teacher hacked to death in Rajshahi

Update : 10 Jun 2017, 09:29 AM
Unidentified assailants have hacked a madrasa teacher to death in Rajshahi's Bagmara upazila. The victim, 36-year-old Abul Kalam Azad, taught at Khapur Madrasa in the sub-district's Dwippur union. Police say the teacher was murdered near the madrasa around 10pm on Thursday. Bagmara police station chief Nasim Haidr said Azad had gone to Khapur market for having tea after Friday night's prayers where an unidentified man called him to a ground near the madrasa saying he had some important things to discuss. “Other assailants waiting there swooped on the madrasa teacher,” the OC said. “The attackers used sharp weapons to hit Azad in the head, chest and belly.” Police say they were trying to identify and arrest the attackers. OC Nasim dismissed the idea of militants' involvement. “No, no,” he replied when asked about the matter. “The militants have no ties to the incident.”
