Rangamati landslide: Body of missing army man found

An army solider, missing since Tuesday's landslide in Rangamati, has been found dead. His body was recovered from Manikchhari on Thursday morning, Rangamati Fire Service Deputy Assistant Direction Didar Alam told the Dhaka Tribune. At least 151 people, including several officers and members of the army, were killed in landslides triggered by torrential rain in Rangamati, Bandarban, Chittagong, Khagrachhari and Cox’s Bazar districts. Of the total, 109 people were reported dead in Rangamati alone.

An army team was clearing a link road in Manikchhari blocked after a landslide on Tuesday. But another landslide hit the spot killing four army men and injuring 10 others. Bodies of Major Mohammad Mahfuzul Haq, Captain Md Tanvir Salam Shanto, Corporal Mohammad Azizul Haq and soldier Md Shahin Alam were recovered. Five of the rescued soldiers have been airlifted to Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital after their condition had deteriorated. Soldier Azizur had been missing since then. A fire service team recovered his body when clearing mud from the deadly landslide.
