Election Commission Secretary Mohammad Abdullah has said that the Election Commission will start updating the voter list from July 25 and finish on August 9.
The EC official made the statement in a press briefing at the Election Commission Secretariat at Agargaon in Dhaka on Wednesday.
He said those who will be 18-years-old or older on January 1, 2018 will be included in the updated voter list, with about 3,500,000 new voters expected to be included.
The EC secretary added that information on voters who have died since the last list will also be updated in the latest version.
Abdullah said computer data entry work for registration will begin in 3 phases in the registration centers of 517 upazilas on August 20. Photos and fingerprints will be taken from August 20 to November 5, after collecting information by going door to door from 25 July.
The draft of the updated list will be published on January 2, 2018. The final list will be published on January 31, 2018, after settling objections and claims. The final date for submission of objection and amendment forms is January 17. The deadline for settling objections and claims is January 22.
People who changed their location during the process will have to fill up a specific form provided by Election Commission with their new address. They will also have to submit necessary documents to the Thana Election Office where they want to be a voter.
According to Mohammad Abdullah, there are around 101,843,667 voters in the country.
