Update : 05 Aug 2017, 06:27 PM
Joydeb Dutt, who gained fame as Sidrman for his courageous efforts in saving lives during the devastating cyclone of 2007, has been found dead in Barguna's Taltali upazila. Police recovered the body of the 57-year-old from inside the wireless operator's room of the Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) Office at the Barhbagi Union Parishad premises around 11am on Saturday. Taltali police station Officer-in-Charge Kamalesh Chandra Halder said police were informed by some locals about a bad smell coming from the room in the morning. Police broke down the door to enter the room and found Joydeb dead, he said. According to the OC, the body seemed to have been there for at least two to three days. Police are still unclear whether it was a suicide or murder. The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Joydeb earned the fame of Sidrman for circulating an alert on Cyclone Sidr back in 2007. He risked his own life travelling along the coastline and on the Taltali riverbank areas to circulate the message to move residents to safety ahead of the cyclone.
